Glen Burnie

Glen Burnie’s civic association, volunteer fire company and Eastway library provide distinct entry points into local life. Their histories and current resources connect the town center with surrounding neighborhoods.

Begin with the town’s civic organization

The Glen Burnie Improvement Association has worked on community matters since 1908. Based at 19 Crain Highway South, the volunteer organization maintains Third Avenue Park and organizes local activities. Its current calendar and meeting information give residents a direct way to find an event, raise a neighborhood concern or volunteer.

A history of shared institutions

The Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company traces its organization to 1922 and records the improvement association’s role in providing a fire station in 1925. The present station is at 15 Central Avenue. That connection explains how civic organizing and fire protection developed together locally; historical dates should not be confused with the age or location of every current company building.

Use the Eastway library

Glen Burnie Library is at 1010 Eastway, across Ritchie Highway from Harundale Plaza. Use its branch page for programs, meeting-room information and public technology resources. The same page discusses a planned replacement library. The existing branch address remains the practical starting point while that separate project moves forward; a proposed larger building is not an additional open destination.
