Linstead on the Severn

Explore Linstead’s Severn River setting, the history behind Carter’s Bluff and the association resources that govern community waterfront use.

Linstead on the Severn grew from an older farm into a river-oriented neighborhood in the early 1940s. Carter’s Bluff, also known as Linstead House, connects the present community to that earlier landscape. The Maryland Historical Trust records the brick house’s history and later use as a summer home. Read the Linstead House history.

An older story along the river

The surviving historical record helps explain the neighborhood’s name and its transition from farmland to residential streets. It is useful background for anyone interested in how Severna Park developed from farms and summer retreats into year-round communities. Linstead House is a private property, so enjoy that history through the archive rather than planning an unarranged visit.

Community gatherings and waterfront use

Linstead Community Association organizes its resident information around beach reservations, neighborhood news, meetings and membership. Its website is the starting point for an owner or resident to follow community activity. Ask the association which facilities and guest arrangements apply to a particular address when planning a waterfront visit.

Swimming beyond the summer season

The Severna Park Community Center offers indoor aquatics with its own programs, passes and reservations. It gives residents a useful swimming option independent of neighborhood beach conditions or season. Check aquatic programs for the activity and schedule that fit your household.
