Wye Mills
Wye Mills pairs a working historic gristmill with Chesapeake College’s main campus and a long connection to Eastern Shore learning and industry.
Wye Mills has a history you can see in motion at Old Wye Mill. The mill’s story reaches back to 1682, and its preserved water-powered machinery explains how grain processing shaped local work. A grinding demonstration gives the building a different dimension from a static historical display.
Visiting the mill
The visitor entrance is at 900 Wye Mills Road. The operator lists a May-through-October season, with grinding on the first and third Saturdays. Check the day’s arrangements before traveling. The lower level is wheelchair accessible, and a video helps explain machinery upstairs; family discovery backpacks offer another way for children to engage with the site.
Use the mill address when navigating. The organization also lists a separate office address, which is not the same visitor destination.
A modern educational anchor
Chesapeake College identifies its main campus at 1000 College Circle in Wye Mills. Its academic, workforce and noncredit programs give the community a present-day educational role alongside the mill’s industrial history. Prospective students can begin with the college’s program and visitor information; its Cambridge Center is a separate location.
These two anchors offer a clear introduction to Wye Mills: one interprets how the community worked, while the other supports learning and training across the surrounding region.
