Romancoke
Romancoke’s pier and kayak ramp mark the southern end of a paved trail along Route 8, with parking and launching rules to plan around.
Romancoke offers a clear destination at the southern end of Route 8: a long fishing pier, a small picnic area and a kayak ramp. The county’s Romancoke Pier page places the entrance at 9700 Romancoke Road, with a Stevensville mailing address. Use that destination when planning a visit to this part of Kent Island.
Start with the pier
The pier extends 600 feet and is used for fishing and crabbing. Pets are prohibited on the pier. The county distinguishes boat-launch use from other visits when explaining parking charges and landing permits, so confirm the rule for your activity before arrival. A general landing permit is not a blanket exemption from parking charges for a picnic or fishing visit.
Follow the South Island Trail
The South Island Trail follows Route 8 on a paved route between Matapeake and Romancoke. It gives walkers and cyclists a second reason to come here, whether for a short section or a longer outing. The county lists the established route as seven miles; plan your own return rather than assuming a shuttle connection.
A separate county US 50/301 crossing study concerns a future connection between the South Island and Cross Island trails. Its proposed overpasses should not be used as directions for an existing ride. Check the current trail map and any notices for the section you intend to use.
