Cox Creek

Cox Creek brings Kent Island’s tidal landscape into focus through a county landing and the Cross Island Trail’s creek crossing.

Cox Creek is a useful starting point for exploring the waterways that shape Kent Island. Here, the creek name describes a landscape and nearby community area; choose a specific landing or trail entrance when planning a visit.

A launch on Shipping Creek

Shipping Creek Landing at 191 Shipping Creek Road provides access to both Shipping Creek and Cox Creek. The county lists a boat ramp, parking, a portable restroom and opportunities for fishing and crabbing. Its Stevensville mailing address helps distinguish this entrance from other Kent Island access points. A Queen Anne’s County public landing permit is required, and pets must be leashed.

The creek and the trail

The county’s June 2026 Tanner Farm notice identifies the Cross Island Trail segment between the Kent Island Library spur and the Cox Creek Bridge. It also describes wetland restoration work at Tanner Farm, connecting the recreational corridor with habitat and water-quality efforts.

That notice announced a short June closure, rather than an ongoing autumn restriction. For a walk or ride, use current park notices to choose an available trail entrance. For a boat outing, start with the landing requirements and conditions. These are separate ways to experience the creek, with different access arrangements.
