Ingleside

Ingleside’s history can be traced through rural architecture along Roberts Station Road and the records of its Methodist community.

Ingleside lies along Maryland Route 19 in rural Queen Anne’s County. The Maryland Historical Trust file for the Joseph Covington House places the property on Roberts Station Road at the community’s western edge. Its photographs, plans and survey notes provide a detailed look at nineteenth-century domestic architecture.

Architecture in the record

The original survey dates the brick house to roughly 1840–1855 and describes an attached rear wing and a separate building combining dairy and meat-storage functions. A later assessment, prepared in 2004, revisited the property. These are dated observations of a private property; they support historical reading, rather than a claim about today’s condition or public tours.

A community beyond its buildings

The Maryland State Archives’ Sudlersville Circuit Collection preserves another part of Ingleside’s story. Its catalog includes Ingleside Methodist church registers, quarterly minutes and material associated with St. Paul’s anniversary. Those records can help local and family historians follow the area’s religious and community connections.

For research, use the Archives collection number MSA SC 5187 and contact Special Collections about access to the microfilm. Together, the architectural survey and church records offer concrete starting points for understanding a small community whose history is spread across homes, roads and local institutions.
