Eastern Bay Waterfront

Eastern Bay’s waterfront is a collection of separate creeks, landings and paddling routes, each with its own access conditions.

Eastern Bay connects several different waterfront experiences around Kent Island and the Wye River. This is a regional waterfront area, with separate destinations and access points rather than one continuous public promenade.

Start with a mapped route

The Kent Island Water Trails program was developed by Maryland DNR and Queen Anne’s County. Its six routes cover waterways including Eastern Bay, the Chester River and Prospect Bay, with information intended primarily for small nonmotorized boats. Choose a route and launch suited to your equipment, experience and conditions on the day.

Two different launch settings

Little Creek Landing at 1901 Little Creek Road provides a county ramp with a connection through Crab Alley Bay to Eastern Bay. County landing permits apply. Farther into the Wye River landscape, Granary Creek on Wye Island has a soft launch for nonmotorized vessels and limited parking. A ramp and a soft launch require different unloading plans.

Public access begins at the named facility. Nearby residential waterfront does not establish another public entry point. When planning time on the bay, allow for wind, waves, tides and other boat traffic; a mapped route is a planning resource, not a promise of calm conditions. Keeping the launch and route specific makes this broad waterfront area easier to explore.
