Lexington Park

A community shaped by naval aviation, with public parks and transit links across St. Mary’s County.

Lexington Park is closely connected with Naval Air Station Patuxent River and the work of naval aviation research and testing. It is also a community with public parks, a library and everyday destinations outside the installation. For a first look, choose those public places and a specific route through the area rather than navigating simply to the base.

Understand the naval connection

The Navy’s overview of NAS Patuxent River identifies the main station in Lexington Park. For a work-related visit, the official visitor information explains the entry points from MD 235, also called Three Notch Road, and the process for arranging access.

Confirm the entrance and instructions with your host before traveling. For a possible move connected with the installation, test the trip to the entrance you would actually use. Distance to the installation boundary does not show the full journey to a workplace.

A park with several ways to spend time

Lexington Manor Passive Park at 21675 South Coral Drive combines walking and cycling paths, community gardens, public art and disc golf. It offers a useful public introduction to the area, whether you want a short walk or a planned outdoor activity.

The county lists pavilions and restrooms, with additional parking at Lancaster Park on Willows Road. Check the park map and current rules for the activity you have in mind. A pavilion gathering, a disc-golf visit and a walk can use different parts of the grounds.

Library life and local travel

Lexington Park Library is at 21677 FDR Boulevard. Its art gallery and public programs provide another connection with the community beyond the naval workplace. Use the branch calendar when choosing a visit, especially for events that need registration.

St. Mary’s Transit System lists connections from Lexington Park to Leonardtown, Solomons and the southern county. Each route has its own pattern and operating days. Match the stop and return trip to your destination rather than assuming every connection runs through the evening or weekend.

Questions to settle before moving

Map the actual routes to work, groceries, the library and recreation. If the household uses transit, include the walk to each stop and any transfer. These checks reveal how a particular address works in daily life more clearly than a broad community label.

For school research, use St. Mary’s County’s school-by-address resource and confirm with the district for the intended school year. The district notes that boundaries can change and that new subdivisions or addresses close to a boundary need particular care.
