Neighborhood

Thunder Hill

Thunder Hill is an Oakland Mills neighborhood with art-derived street names, a Log Chain Road pool and nearby Blandair recreation. Use the specific park area when planning a larger outing.

Farm history and an artist’s street names

Thunder Hill is one of Oakland Mills’ three neighborhoods. The village history links its name to Oliver Goldsmith’s former farm, while the current neighborhood directory attributes its street names to artist Andrew Wyeth. Those two sources explain different layers of the place: a pre-Columbia name and the street-naming approach used in the planned neighborhood.

Recreation on Log Chain Road

Thunder Hill Pool is at 9205 Log Chain Road. Its six-lane main pool and wading pool are accompanied by shaded areas, sand volleyball and an adjacent tot lot. The pool’s seasonal schedule and admission links belong to CA. For someone getting oriented, the named pool and neighborhood center provide a more precise destination than the much longer Thunder Hill Road corridor.

Pick the right Blandair area

The association identifies Blandair Regional Park northeast of the village as a nearby destination. The county’s park directory divides it into distinct areas: the north area has a play-for-all playground with communication boards and an adult changing table in the restrooms; the west area includes courts and a skate park; the east area has tennis, baseball and a challenge course. Select the appropriate entrance for the activity instead of treating every Blandair address as interchangeable. These are county facilities, with their own schedules and reservation arrangements.
