Neighborhood

Stevens Forest

Stevens Forest combines an Oakland Mills neighborhood center and seasonal pool with a connection toward Downtown Columbia. Its local organizations serve different roles, from recreation to older-adult community activities.

A neighborhood with an older name

Stevens Forest is part of Oakland Mills village. The community history traces the name to Charles Stevens’ 1709 land grant, while the neighborhood directory identifies street names drawn from John Dos Passos, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. The historical land name and later literary street names give this part of Columbia two distinct stories to explore.

Find the center on Stevens Forest Road

Stevens Forest Pool is at 6061 Stevens Forest Road. Its facilities include a heated eight-lane main pool, a hot tub and a shaded fitness pavilion; activities depend on the outdoor season and current program calendar. The neighborhood center also houses The Village in Howard, an organization identified by the village association as serving adults 50 and older. Its official contact page gives the same Stevens Forest Road address. Contact the organization for membership or activity information; its presence does not make the surrounding neighborhood an age-restricted community.

A connection toward downtown

Bridge Columbia provides a pedestrian and bicycle crossing over US29 between Oakland Mills and Downtown Columbia. The association describes an approach on the CA path between Columbia Pointe and Forest Ridge apartments near Stevens Forest Road and White Acre. Use CA’s pathway maps to plan the rest of the trip toward the Lakefront or another destination. The bridge is a useful connection; its existence does not establish a single walking route or travel time from every Stevens Forest address.
