Susquehanna Gateway

Harford’s Susquehanna gateway combines river-valley trails, the Rock Run historic landscape and boating access at Lapidum.

The lower Susquehanna gives northern Harford a meeting point of river scenery, outdoor recreation and transportation history. Susquehanna State Park contains the Rock Run Historic Area, with its gristmill, Carter-Archer Mansion and remnants of the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal. Use the named historic-area entrance and check any interior opening arrangements separately.

Choose the trail and access point

The park’s trail guide describes routes ranging from easier river-level sections to steeper ridge climbs. When checked on October 2, 2026, it also reported the footbridge near Stafford Flint Furnace closed because of storm damage, directing Greenways access to the Deer Creek trestle at 851 Stafford Road. Check that notice again before choosing a starting point.

Lapidum on the water

The Lapidum boating facility provides a separate river launch with year-round ramps and service charges. Review launch rules, weather and river conditions before bringing a boat; a ramp listing does not establish suitable conditions for every craft.

Choose one anchor for the day—a historic-area visit, a trail or a launch—and plan around its access needs. The river corridor offers several experiences, but they do not all begin at the park’s administrative address.
