Route 40 Defense Corridor

Harford’s Route 40 corridor connects civilian communities, business areas and the approaches to APG’s northern and southern employment districts.

U.S. 40, also called Pulaski Highway, provides an important connection between the approaches to APG’s two areas. The Army’s published directions use the highway between MD 715 for Aberdeen Area and MD 24 for Edgewood Area. Confirm which installation entrance a workplace uses before planning the trip.

Business districts and reinvestment

The corridor also runs through civilian communities with their own local priorities. In September 2026, the county announced an expanded Sustainable Community designation for Edgewood and Joppatowne, giving eligible projects access to state revitalization programs.

The separate Edgewood façade program applies to mapped properties along designated stretches of U.S. 40 and Edgewood Road. When checked on October 2, 2026, the county said the pilot funds were exhausted and application reviews were paused pending additional funding. A business owner should check the program boundary and current funding status; a corridor address by itself does not establish eligibility or a funding award.

Plan beyond the highway

Harford Transit LINK’s Silver Line connects Aberdeen, Edgewood and Joppatowne. Its schedule provides a starting point for a transit trip, while each destination still needs a practical final connection. Viewing Route 40 through its communities, bus stops and named workplaces makes the corridor more useful than treating it as a single district with one entrance.
