Joppatowne
Joppatowne’s library and Mariner Point Park offer a local starting point, with visible examples of how the community manages water and public space.
Joppatowne and Joppa are connected names, but they are not interchangeable boundaries. The history of the Joppa library is helpful on that distinction: the branch opened on Towne Center Drive in Joppatowne in July 1980, while serving a wider area that includes Joppa and communities west of U.S. 40. Its service area describes who uses a resource, not where one neighborhood ends.
A library and a park to locate precisely
HCPL lists the Joppa branch at 655 Towne Center Drive. It is a practical starting point for a local program, a reading visit or asking about community information. Check the current calendar before arranging a group visit or assuming a meeting room is available.
For an outdoor stop, the Mariner Point Park office is at 100 Kearney Drive. Use the park’s specific address when planning the trip. Its name and the broader Joppa mailing label need not match every map’s community label, and a nearby waterfront address does not establish public access.
Look for how rainfall is handled
A rain garden west of the park visitor center was built by the county’s Watershed Stewards Academy class and volunteers in April 2022 to capture roof runoff. It offers a concrete thing to look for during a visit: the route water takes after leaving a building.
A separate county stormwater project completed in January 2025 added bioretention and converted two drainage paths into bioswales near the middle parking area. These are documented improvements, not a claim that every park project is finished or every facility is currently available. The library and park make useful first destinations on their own; allow time to check current notices and decide what fits your visit, rather than promising an unverified route between them.
