Community

Joppa

Joppa’s local resources connect the wider community with Joppatowne’s library and smaller neighborhood parks.

Joppa and Joppatowne are closely connected in everyday service use, but the names do not identify exactly the same area. The Joppa Library’s history says its Towne Center Drive building opened in Joppatowne in 1980 to serve that community, Joppa and other areas west of U.S. 40. That wider service role helps explain why both names appear in local directions.

A useful community stop

The current Joppa branch at 655 Towne Center Drive offers computers, printing and Wi-Fi, along with a creative arts space and a fishing-rod loan program. Check the branch calendar or ask about a particular item before planning a visit around it.

A smaller outdoor option

The county’s park directory identifies Barksdale Park at 308 Barksdale Road as a neighborhood play area. It offers a different kind of stop from a large waterfront park: use the named site and street address when arranging to meet someone.

These resources provide practical starting points for getting oriented in Joppa. Library service areas, postal addresses and community names overlap, so confirm an individual destination instead of treating one label as a precise boundary for everything nearby.
