Area
Gunpowder Neck
Gunpowder Neck is the peninsula occupied by APG’s Edgewood Area, between the Gunpowder River, Bush River and upper Chesapeake Bay.
Gunpowder Neck is a geographic name with a strong federal-installation connection. The Army’s environmental overview places APG’s Edgewood Area on the peninsula, with the Gunpowder River to the west, the Bush River to the east and the Chesapeake Bay to the south. Creeks and tidal shorelines are central to its setting.
Boating with eligibility requirements
Gunpowder Neck Marina is an Army recreation facility in the Edgewood Area. MWR lists slips, storage, a boat ramp and other marina services for eligible patrons. Prospective users should contact Outdoor Recreation about eligibility, registration, availability and the particular service they need.
A controlled-access destination
APG’s visitor information directs South-area visitors through the Hoadley Road/MD 24 entrance. Arrange the required access with the appropriate host or operator before traveling; a marina listing does not create unrestricted entry to the installation.
The useful local distinction is between knowing the peninsula’s landscape and having permission to use a facility there. Choose a named, authorized destination and follow its arrangements. Gunpowder Neck should not be approached as an ordinary waterfront neighborhood with public access along every road or shoreline.
