Edgewood

Edgewood’s community library, Penn Line station and Mildred C. Kelly Park connect everyday services with the area’s military history.

Edgewood is worth approaching through its public community spaces as well as its transport connections. A recent addition, Mildred C. Kelly Park, gives a local military-history connection a place outside the installation: Harford County dedicated the park in July 2025 on a former Aberdeen Proving Ground housing site along Nuttal Avenue.

The county’s dedication account identifies Kelly as the first African American woman to reach the Army’s sergeant-major rank, in 1972, followed by promotion to command sergeant major at APG in 1974. The 5.5-acre park has military-themed playground equipment, a walking path and a gazebo. The public park is a specific community destination; it should not be confused with permission to enter nearby military facilities.

Resources on Edgewood Road

The Edgewood library at 629 Edgewood Road offers an early-literacy play area, teen space, public computers, printing and drive-through service. Its collections include science kits as well as books. For a newcomer, the branch’s current program calendar is a useful way to find an activity with a defined place, date and age range. Check registration details rather than assuming every program accepts walk-ins.

Plan a specific journey

Maryland Transit Administration lists Edgewood among the MARC Penn Line stops. That establishes a rail option to investigate, not a promise that every Penn Line train serves the station or that the timetable fits a particular shift. Check the travel date, direction and return journey, then account for the trip between home and the platform.

A practical first look can therefore focus on one neighborhood resource, such as the library or park, while treating commuting as a separate exercise. This profile makes no measured travel-time or military-access claim. Its purpose is to identify usable starting points within the community, with the operators’ current information available for the next step.
