Security

Security centers on the Security Square area within Woodlawn, where an established commercial site is the subject of a long-term redevelopment vision.

The Security Square area

Security is the smaller Woodlawn area associated with Security Square and the Security Boulevard corridor. Its commercial identity is central to the Security Square Vision Plan, completed in 2023 by Ayers Saint Gross with Baltimore County and community participants. Workshops, town halls, surveys and on-site conversations explored how the mall property could better serve surrounding residents.

The resulting vision combines residential uses, recreation, retail, entertainment and workplaces. It also proposes a greenway and open spaces. These are planning ideas for a large redevelopment site, rather than evidence that every pictured building or public space has been constructed. The distinction matters when using architectural renderings to understand the area.

A current neighborhood resource

For a service available during this period of change, the temporary Woodlawn library is at 6660 Security Boulevard, Suite 13. It provides books, computers and study space while the permanent branch is renovated. This gives residents a practical destination on the corridor independent of the mall’s future plans. Security Square’s redevelopment and the library renovation are separate projects, with separate operators and timelines.
