West River

West River offers retreat facilities and connections to a wider waterfront landscape. Plan a reserved group visit on Chalk Point Road or choose the separate public wharf in nearby Galesville.

West River within a larger watershed

West River is both a local community name and part of a wider waterfront landscape. The county’s watershed description includes West River alongside Galesville, Chalk Point, Avalon Shores and other communities. That shared watershed helps explain the network of nearby creeks, but it does not make the individual places interchangeable.

Book a retreat on Chalk Point Road

The West River Center is at 5100 Chalk Point Road. It offers group rentals from September through May, with a retreat building, lodges, smaller houses and meeting spaces. A family gathering, club retreat or day meeting should begin with the center’s rental office to match the group with an appropriate building and activity plan. This is a reserved camp and retreat property, not a walk-in waterfront park.

Find public water access in Galesville

For a separate public outing, Galesville Wharf is at 4847 Riverside Drive in Galesville. The county lists a fishing pier, picnic space and cartop boat access. Parking is limited, and paddlers need to account for harbor boat traffic. Use the wharf’s own location and rules when planning the visit rather than a generic West River address.
