Parole

Parole combines a Civil War place-name with today’s shopping, offices and everyday services, including a public library inside Annapolis Mall.

Parole is one of the Annapolis area’s everyday destinations: a place for shopping, appointments, office visits and library time. Its modern commercial landscape also preserves a name from the Civil War. The county’s Parole Town Center Master Plan traces it to Camp Parole, where soldiers waited within the prisoner-exchange system. The camp’s final location became the site of today’s Annapolis Town Center.

A library within the shopping district

Discoveries: The Library at the Mall gives this retail area a public gathering place. The branch at 2550 Annapolis Mall Road sits near the Crate & Barrel court, with books, programs, in-library laptops and printing. It began in 2018 and became the county library system’s sixteenth branch in 2020. The library’s directions identify the Green Parking Deck and the elevator route to its entrance, useful when the mall’s size makes a simple address insufficient.

Use the exact destination

The mall, Annapolis Town Center, county offices and medical campus are separate destinations within the wider Parole area. Pick the building and entrance before choosing parking or transit. The county plan describes a district working toward better connections and more public space; its proposed improvements should not be mistaken for completed walking routes. For a low-pressure first stop, the library offers somewhere to read or meet without making a purchase.
