Lake Shore

Lake Shore offers both an athletic complex and a larger natural area. Trail entrances, equestrian gate arrangements and selected fall closures help residents plan the kind of outing they want.

Start at the athletic complex

Lake Shore Athletic Complex, at 850 Woods Road, combines sports facilities with a playground, picnic space and trails. The county also identifies the two-mile Phil and Alice Dibben equestrian trail. Riders using the southern parking entrance need to request the gate combination through the county’s process and secure the gate after entry.

Explore the Magothy Greenway

The Magothy Greenway Natural Area offers a different setting: 369 acres in Lake Shore, north of the river, with roughly four miles of natural-surface trails. The county lists 20 North Shore Road as an entrance address. Hikers, equestrians and people with leashed dogs share the area; choose the appropriate entrance before setting out, especially when bringing a horse trailer.

Check the fall access calendar

The county publishes selected deer-management mornings when Magothy Greenway Natural Area and Loopers Field remain closed until 1 p.m. The 2026 list extends into December. Read the full dated schedule on the natural-area page before a morning walk or ride; an ordinary trail-hours listing does not override those closures. For a shorter recreational stop, the athletic complex has a separate mix of facilities and its own access arrangements.
