Hillsmere Shores
Hillsmere Shores grew from a farm into a waterfront neighborhood with community-owned amenities and public library access near Forest Drive.
Hillsmere Shores occupies a waterfront setting between Duvall Creek and Quiet Waters Park. Its community association traces the neighborhood to Hilsmere Farm, developed by the Smith Brothers during the 1950s. The farm’s name gained an extra “l,” while parts of its physical history survived: the manor house and dairy barn were incorporated into the Key School campus.
Community ownership matters
The Hillsmere Shores Improvement Association formed in 1956, and the developer transferred community properties to it in 1965. Today, the marina, beach, pavilions and pool help shape neighborhood life. They have their own access arrangements. The association’s resident FAQ explains vehicle decals for beach and marina parking, guest passes and separate requests for marina slips or boat-ramp keys. New residents can also use its Sea Breeze newsletter to follow local meetings and projects.
A public resource nearby
The Eastport-Annapolis Neck Library at 269 Hillsmere Drive is a useful gathering place beyond those community amenities. The branch has a meeting room and a program calendar, and its directions describe an entrance from Hillsmere Drive plus a footpath from the shopping center. That combination—waterfront facilities managed by the neighborhood and shared services near Forest Drive—is central to understanding everyday Hillsmere. Visitors should arrange community access with their host instead of treating the beach or marina as a county park.
