Furnace Branch

Furnace Branch connects northern Anne Arundel’s tidal-creek landscape with a documented Rosenwald-school history. Solleys Cove provides a separate, named public destination for reaching the nearby waterfront.

Understand the creek landscape

Furnace Branch lies within the Patapsco Tidal watershed in northern Anne Arundel County. The county’s watershed guide includes the community in a drainage area whose major tributaries include Marley Creek. That is useful context for a place where creek names, roads and community names overlap. A watershed describes where water flows; it is not a precise neighborhood boundary.

Find a specific public waterfront stop

For an outdoor visit in the surrounding area, Solleys Cove Park has a county-listed entrance at 7360 Carbide Road, Curtis Bay. The park offers boat ramps, cartop access, trails and restrooms, with sunrise-to-sunset hours. Use that named public entrance rather than assuming that a street ending near a creek provides a place to launch.

Read the local school record

The Maryland Historical Trust’s county school history lists Furnace Branch’s Rosenwald school in 1931–32, near the end of that school-building program. It adds an education-history layer to the area’s creek and road geography. The historical entry is a research starting point; it does not establish an operating museum, current school assignment or permission to enter a surviving property.
