Crownsville
Crownsville connects a major hospital-history project with the trails at Bacon Ridge. The patient cemetery has specific public-access arrangements, separate from general entry to the former hospital campus.
Begin with Crownsville’s recorded history
The Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park page brings together the final master plan, oral histories and a 2025 virtual photo tour. These resources help readers understand the former hospital’s buildings, people and proposed future uses. They are particularly useful before a visit, because the campus’s historic appearance does not establish general access to its buildings.
Choose a Bacon Ridge trail entrance
Bacon Ridge Natural Area provides a separate outdoor destination, including an entrance at 1284 Bacon Ridge Road. Its natural-surface network extends for more than 20 miles and accommodates hikers, mountain bikers and leashed pets. Select an entrance and route from the county map rather than using the former hospital as a general trailhead.
Plan a patient-cemetery visit
The county publishes specific cemetery access options for the Say My Name Memorial. Trail approaches are several miles long. Weekday drive-in visits require advance arrangements, with requests at least 48 hours ahead; the listed monthly open-access visit has separate dates and weather conditions. Access is limited to the authorized cemetery and trail areas. Use those directions to choose a visit suited to your group.
