Solomons

A Patuxent waterfront community with maritime history, public water access and a connection to St. Mary’s County.

Solomons sits where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay in southern Calvert County. Its identity comes through in boats, waterfront views and maritime history, but the museum, public launch and everyday services occupy different addresses. Pick a few destinations before arriving so that a short visit feels like time by the water rather than a search for the right entrance.

Begin with the maritime landscape

The Calvert Marine Museum at 14200 Solomons Island Road provides a useful introduction to the area. Its visitor guide includes a map of the exhibition building and grounds. Review that map with the current exhibits and access notices, especially when a particular attraction is the reason for your trip.

A museum visit and a boat trip require separate planning. The museum publishes information for its Wm. B. Tennison cruises, including the operating schedule and booking details. Choose the actual departure before building the rest of your day around it; a museum admission does not by itself establish a cruise reservation.

Public water access and an art outing

The county lists the Solomons Boat Ramp and Fishing Pier at 14195 Solomons Island Road South. Use that facility’s contact information for launch operations and current access. A waterfront restaurant, marina or visible shoreline is not automatically a public place to launch a boat.

Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center adds a different kind of outdoor visit: wooded paths, sculpture and art programs. Check its calendar when choosing between a quiet garden visit and a special event. Plan it as a destination of its own rather than assuming it shares the museum’s entrance or hours.

Library, transportation and daily life

Calvert Library’s Southern Branch is at 13920 H.G. Trueman Road. It offers an everyday community connection beyond the waterfront visitor circuit, with library services and a calendar of programs.

St. Mary’s Transit System’s Calvert Route connects Lexington Park and Solomons on weekdays. Check the stop and return timetable for your particular trip. When comparing a Solomons address with work across the Patuxent, include the river crossing in your actual travel test instead of relying on straight-line distance.

For a move, plot ordinary errands as carefully as recreational stops. Check the address with Calvert County Public Schools for school questions, and ask the relevant service provider about that property. A waterfront location is one part of daily life, alongside transportation, services and access.
