North Laurel

North Laurel is a Howard County community with its own recreation and civic connections. A Laurel postal address does not make it the incorporated City of Laurel. Whiskey Bottom Road’s community center and park provide a useful starting point for understanding everyday life on this side of the county line.

A shared center for several generations

The North Laurel Community Center is at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road. It brings a gymnasium, fitness and activity rooms, a 50+ Center and other county services into one facility. Different programs and spaces have their own registration or membership arrangements, so start with the activity you intend to use.

The center’s pool facilities and notices cover an eight-lane pool and a leisure pool. Swimming sessions and temporary closures follow their own schedule, separate from general building hours. Check the pool timetable and current notices before a swim, particularly around holidays or scheduled daytime closures.

Outdoor recreation has a separate role

The surrounding North Laurel Park includes a skate park, courts, playground and pavilion. The County distinguishes permit-use ballfields from other amenities. A visit to the playground or a scheduled field activity is therefore a different plan from using the indoor center, even though the destinations share a site.

The library name crosses the local map

The nearby Savage Branch and STEM Education Center, at 9525 Durness Lane, also uses a Laurel postal address. It offers library services, public computers and outdoor learning spaces. The branch name, mailing address and surrounding community describe different things; use the actual address to plan the trip.

Together, the park, center and library provide concrete entry points to the area. They let a newcomer connect with a class, a recreation session or a shared public space while keeping North Laurel’s Howard County identity clear.
