Community

Highland

Highland centers on the crossroads of Routes 108 and 216 and Highland Road, with a civic association and nearby Schooley Mill Park.

Highland's identity begins at the meeting of Maryland Routes 108 and 216 with Highland Road. The Greater Highland Crossroads Association traces the settlement's early role to an inn serving travelers, followed by shops and services supporting nearby farms. That history offers a useful way to read the crossroads: buildings associated with different trades reflect how the community served people passing through and people living around it.

Following local decisions

The association formed in March 2002 and continues to address development and community issues in Highland and surrounding rural areas. Its information gives residents a starting point for following proposals and civic activity. For an individual business visit, check the business's current address and hours; a historical account of a building's use is not a present-day tenant directory.

Time outdoors

Schooley Mill Park at 12975 Hall Shop Road adds trails and equestrian facilities nearby. Plan the park as its own destination, using county information for the activity you have in mind. The crossroads and the park introduce complementary sides of Highland: local commerce and community life, followed by space for outdoor recreation.
