Community

Fulton

Fulton’s Route 216 corridor connects agricultural history, a longstanding church and the newer Maple Lawn development. Those distinct layers give the wider community its own story.

Fulton includes more than the newer Maple Lawn development. Along Route 216, agricultural connections and longstanding institutions sit beside the places associated with recent growth. Looking at those different layers gives this southern Howard County community an identity beyond any single shopping or residential project.

An agricultural name still has a local address

The Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Maryland’s Best directory lists Maple Lawn Farms at 11788 Route 216 in Fulton. The listing connects the familiar Maple Lawn name with turkey production as well as development. It is a starting point for a producer inquiry, not evidence of daily public farm access or a particular season’s inventory.

A church preserves another chapter of Fulton’s history

Across the Route 216 corridor, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church’s anniversary history records the dedication of its first wooden church in August 1871. The current stone church was built in 1932 and dedicated in January 1933. Historical photographs show the construction and the contributions of congregation members.

The church’s address is 11795 Route 216. Its history offers a specific way to understand a community that was established long before today’s mixed-use buildings. The account concerns the institution and its buildings, without implying that present-day Fulton residents share one faith or background.

Follow the community work and the newer development separately

The church’s outreach information documents activities including a community garden and food-related service. Use its current organizers to learn about participation; older project notices do not establish available plots or an upcoming schedule.

Meanwhile, Maple Lawn’s development history describes planning that began in 1996 with the developer and the Iager family. That is one important part of Fulton’s continuing story. Keeping the older corridor, its institutions and the newer development in view makes the wider community easier to recognize.
