Elkridge
Elkridge offers a DIY library, Rockburn Branch Park and the historic Belmont estate. Each provides a different local starting point, with specific borrowing, entrance or visit arrangements.
Elkridge offers several different ways into eastern Howard County: a library centered on practical making, a park with separate east and west entrances, and a historic estate used for scheduled events. Choosing among those destinations gives a visit more direction than treating the area only as a junction of major roads.
The library lends tools as well as books
The Elkridge Branch and DIY Education Center is at 6540 Washington Boulevard. Alongside study rooms, computers and meeting spaces, it supports a collection of tools for household projects, gardening, crafts and other hands-on work.
The library’s DIY borrowing instructions explain the separate enrollment process and pickup arrangements. Applicants must be at least 21 and apply in person; tools are collected and returned at the DIY desk rather than through a book drop. A planned project is a useful reason to explore the collection, with availability and borrowing terms checked before the work begins.
Choose the correct park entrance
Rockburn Branch Park has a west entrance at 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road and an east entrance at 5400 Landing Road. The County lists pathways and trails across the park. Use the map for the facility or route you want before setting the destination, especially when meeting other people.
Belmont requires a scheduled visit
Belmont Manor and Historic Park adds a much older layer. The County’s account dates the manor to 1738 and acknowledges the people enslaved on the property, alongside its later institutional uses and preservation.
Its current visitor rules say the property is not generally open outside scheduled rentals and special events; rental tours require appointments. Select an advertised public program or arrange the appropriate visit instead of assuming that a park name means daily access to the house and grounds.
