Neighborhood

Macgill's Common

Macgill’s Common was Kings Contrivance’s first neighborhood and has a sensory-friendly pool on Shaker Drive.

Macgill’s Common was the first neighborhood occupied in Columbia’s Kings Contrivance village, in 1977. The community association’s history connects its name to the Macgill family’s former farmland and its street names to Alan Lomax’s collection of North American folk songs.

A neighborhood pool and village connections

Macgill’s Common Pool is at 10025 Shaker Drive. Columbia Association identifies it as a sensory-friendly pool and lists a six-lane main pool, a wading pool, an in-water basketball hoop and shaded areas. Visitors with a particular sensory or access need can discuss arrangements with the operator before selecting a swimming session. The pool page links to seasonal schedules and admission requirements.

Village-wide information comes through the Kings Contrivance Community Association at Amherst House, 7251 Eden Brook Drive. Its website brings together the community calendar, classes, room rentals and covenant resources. Amherst House serves the wider village, while Shaker Drive is the address for the neighborhood pool. Keeping those destinations distinct helps when arranging a meeting, looking for a local event or planning a swim.
