Union Bridge

Union Bridge combines railway history with two public parks and Little Pipe Creek paths. Plan a museum visit or a walk, while treating working industrial and railroad property separately.

Union Bridge is a western Carroll County town where railway history, industry and recreation sit close together. The town’s account dates its municipal charter to 1872 and identifies cement and rail operations as part of the local setting. For visitors, the practical choices are the museum and public parks, rather than entry onto working industrial property.

Visit the railway collection

The Western Maryland Railway Historical Society is at 41 North Main Street. Its collection includes artifacts, documents and photographs about the railway and the people connected with it. The operator currently lists Wednesday and Sunday museum hours, so choose a specific visit date before traveling. A museum visit is an opportunity to explore the railroad’s records and objects; it does not include a promise of a passenger train ride or access to nearby operating tracks.

Choose the park setting

The town park guide describes Community Park on Ladiesburg Road beside the Community Center, with playing fields, courts, picnic areas and a walking path. Little Pipe Creek Park offers a different outing between Main Street and Green Valley Road. Its principal paved route is about 1.1 miles, with additional grass paths, benches and picnic spots. Entrances are identified at Main Street and along Route 75.

Keep plans tied to current facilities

The town website is seeking proposals for a Community Center playground project as of October 2, 2026. That is planning and procurement information, not evidence of a completed new playground. For a first outing, select the established creek path or arrange the museum visit, then add a picnic if conditions suit. Use the current park map to choose the surface and return route that work for the group.
