Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley’s historic village and long-running volunteer fire company reflect the local institutions that support northern Carroll County communities.
Pleasant Valley’s history can be followed through the Maryland Historical Trust’s village survey. It documents a settlement shaped by farming, milling and a cannery, with houses and community buildings concentrated along the village roads. The cannery’s operations ended in 1943, leaving a record of how local agriculture once supported processing work close to home.
A continuing community institution
The Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company dates its organization to March 20, 1931. The historical survey traces its early use of a lodge building and the later firehouse at 2030 Pleasant Valley Road, which opened in 1983.
The company’s current website carries community announcements and event information. It gives residents a direct route to the organization when asking about participation, a scheduled activity or a nonemergency matter.
Exploring the village’s story
The architectural survey offers photographs and descriptions for readers who want to look more closely at Pleasant Valley’s development. Its assessment of historic significance should be read in the context of that document, with individual properties remaining subject to their owners’ access arrangements.
Together, the historical record and the fire company’s current information show both the village’s earlier working life and an institution that continues to bring people together.
