Piney Run Area
The Piney Run area centers on a county park and lake, with trails, boating, a nature center and seasonal access that should be checked before a visit.
Piney Run Park provides a specific destination within the wider Piney Run area. The county’s park overview describes a lake, wooded trails, picnic facilities and a nature center, with an entrance reached from White Rock Road. The park opened in 1974 and remains a place where a short walk, a planned group gathering and a day on the water require different arrangements.
Check park access before traveling
At the November 2, 2026 check, the official park page announced weekday closures for road maintenance and paving beginning on or about October 26 and continuing into November. It listed Saturdays and Sundays as open unless separately announced, without a firm work-completion date. Check the latest notice before traveling, including for a weekend visit; park maintenance can affect the route and facilities you intend to use.
Plan the visit around the activity
Use 30 Martz Road, Sykesville, for the park address. The county provides separate contact information for the park office, boathouse and nature center, along with current fees and seasonal hours.
Confirm rental availability for boating and reservation arrangements for a pavilion. A general park opening does not establish that every facility or program is operating, particularly during maintenance or a change of season.
