Neighborhood
York-Homeland
York-Homeland connects to the York Road corridor’s food and neighborhood programs. A seasonal farmers market and a community fridge offer practical starting points for shopping, sharing and participation.
Connect through the York Road corridor
York-Homeland is one of the neighborhoods explicitly included in the priority area of Loyola’s Center for Neighborhood Resilience. The center works with local organizations on food access, youth leadership and environmental stewardship. Its corridor-wide role provides a useful connection beyond a single neighborhood boundary.
A seasonal market on York Road
At 5104 York Road, Govans Farmers Market brings food vendors and community resources to the corridor during its seasonal schedule. The organizer’s visitor page covers market dates, parking and payment arrangements. Check the current season before planning a trip; the market does not operate throughout the year. Its news page is the place to confirm special activities and changes for a particular market day.
Use the separate food-sharing resource
The Govans Community Fridge is beside the smaller building at the same York Road site. Loyola describes it as a round-the-clock resource for sharing perishable and nonperishable food. It is separate from the weekly market, so food sharing does not depend on a Wednesday shopping trip. Follow the posted donation guidance, and do not assume particular items will be in stock when you arrive.
