Neighborhood
Wakefield
Wakefield’s residential area sits beside Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, with nature-center learning and trail resources nearby.
Wakefield is a west Baltimore City neighborhood adjoining Dickeyville, Franklintown, West Forest Park and the Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park area. Live Baltimore describes a community with many apartment buildings, as well as detached housing. Its setting beside the park is central to its identity, while individual homes still need to be considered by their actual street and entrance.
Carrie Murray Nature Center at 1901 Ridgetop Road is a nearby starting point for exploring the larger park. It offers animal exhibits, trail maps and naturalist advice. The center distinguishes its natural-surface walking paths from the multiuse trail and asks that dogs remain leashed, useful details when choosing a route and deciding what to bring.
For an organized outing, the center’s public-program listings include family nature hikes, storytime, art and animal activities. Registration runs through CivicRec. Select the actual date, meeting place and age requirements rather than assuming an activity repeats unchanged each week.
