Neighborhood
Towanda-Grantley
Towanda-Grantley combines mid-century rowhouse blocks with a recreation center and a renewed neighborhood pool.
Towanda-Grantley is a northwest Baltimore City neighborhood beside East Arlington, Lucille Park and Central Park Heights. Live Baltimore describes much of its housing as attached homes built in the 1950s. That mid-century residential pattern gives the community a different built character from nearby areas with large detached houses.
Towanda Recreation Center is a substantial community anchor. The City’s October 2021 reopening announcement describes its return after a 2018 closure, with a renewed emphasis on STEM learning and fitness. The renovation included multipurpose space and facilities intended to serve the surrounding Park Heights communities, connecting recreation with learning as well as sports.
The pool has a separate improvement history. Baltimore’s 2025 Recovery Office annual report records its ribbon cutting in June of that year. The recreation center and pool should be checked separately when planning a visit: a building program and an outdoor swimming session have different schedules. Use current registration and seasonal notices for the activity you want rather than relying on the date of a past reopening.
