Neighborhood
Ten Hills
Ten Hills has large detached homes, winding streets and a community association with a long record of neighborhood stewardship.
Ten Hills is a southwest Baltimore City neighborhood adjoining Hunting Ridge, West Hills, Westgate, Beechfield, Tremont and Uplands. Live Baltimore describes large detached houses on shaded lots along winding streets. Its residential layout stands apart from the denser rowhouse patterns elsewhere in the city.
The University of Baltimore’s Ten Hills archive traces development to the former Bellevue estate around the beginning of the twentieth century. Baltimore annexed the area in 1918, and Ten Hills became a local historic district in 2001. The archive includes maps, photographs and association records for people researching a house or the community’s development.
The Ten Hills Community Association incorporated in 1936 and continues to provide a route into neighborhood activities and architectural discussions. Its design-review committee advises on historic compatibility alongside the City’s preservation process. A prospective resident can start with the association and the relevant City guidance when considering exterior work. For a visit, enjoy the streetscape from public space; the large lawns and distinctive homes remain private residential property.
