Neighborhood
Montebello
Montebello combines a prominent lake and waterworks setting with connections toward Herring Run and nearby residential neighborhoods.
Montebello’s lake is a familiar feature of northeast Baltimore, but its working purpose is easy to overlook. In its explanation of the waterworks, Baltimore’s Department of Public Works identifies Lake Montebello as a settling basin for water discharged from filtration processes, rather than a drinking-water source. That utility role helps explain why operating conditions can affect the lake’s appearance.
A larger greenway remains a project
The City’s Druid Hill Park–Lake Montebello trail page describes a proposed separated connection. Its published February 2026 status concerns advancing the design, not a completed route. Check current project notices and posted directions before planning around construction or assuming that a proposed connection is ready to use.
Place the lake in its neighborhood setting
The City map places Montebello beside Hillen, Morgan State University, Mayfield and Clifton Park, among other communities. Part of Herring Run Park also overlaps this mapped area. Lake operations, park paths and residential streets have different purposes; choose a specific destination and follow its current access information.
