Neighborhood

Mid-Govans

Mid-Govans has a long-running community focus on Dewees Park. Garden plots and a proposed new phase of park improvements offer different routes for participation, with future construction kept separate from existing places.

Begin with Dewees Park

Dewees Park is a central part of Mid-Govans’ community landscape. The Neighborhood Design Center’s account places it several blocks east of York Road, with Woodbourne Avenue along its southern edge. Its 2015 project history describes residents and partner organizations working on a memorial garden and broader park improvements. That history helps explain why park planning remains a neighborhood concern.

Keep the next phase in the future

A May 2026 update from the York Road Improvement District describes a proposed loop walk, a Woodbourne Avenue entrance and a memorial garden honoring former Councilman Kenneth Harris Sr. It says construction could begin in 2027. Those are planned improvements, not completed features to expect on a visit today.

Ask about a garden plot

Dewees also appears in the City’s City Farms program brochure, which describes rented garden beds and shared maintenance responsibilities. Contact the current program coordinator about an application and availability. The garden is a place where participants tend assigned plots; seeing vegetables from a park path does not make them available for public picking.
