Neighborhood
Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes has rowhouse streets and a former-school resource center that supports community activities and services.
Langston Hughes is a small northwest Baltimore City neighborhood named for the poet and novelist. Live Baltimore identifies rowhouses and nearby Jack Paulsen Park as defining references. Its official boundary adjoins Arlington, Woodmere, Lucille Park and Central Park Heights, placing it within a closely connected group of Park Heights communities.
The Langston Hughes Community, Business and Resource Center at 5011 Arbutus Avenue is a concrete local anchor. Its operator describes a 2017 opening and management by Youth Educational Services, the nonprofit founded by George E. Mitchell. The center brings organizations and community resources together, including computer access and activities for different age groups. The organization also posts opportunities to support the George E. Mitchell Food Pantry through collections and community activity.
The operator’s own notices are the useful place to look for a particular workshop, pantry activity or other program. Confirm the date, registration requirements and entrance before going, because a multi-organization building does not have one universal drop-in schedule. Jack Paulsen Park is nearby in the adjoining Lucille Park and Central Park Heights area, providing a separate destination from activities inside the resource center.
