Neighborhood

Lake Walker

Lake Walker’s history connects an earlier estate with a 1920s house-building program. Today, its community association offers neighborhood news, greening work and a practical route into local activities.

Find the earlier neighborhood in the street names

Lake Walker’s community history traces part of the area to the Linden estate and the Myers family. It connects familiar streets such as Walker, Weidner, Ready and Nicoll with that earlier landscape. Cedarcroft Road also appears in the account under its former name, Linden Avenue. These details give a walk through the neighborhood a more specific starting point than its name alone.

Notice the York Park chapter

The same history describes frame houses built by the Peabody Heights Company between 1922 and 1926 in a development called York Park. That is one chapter within present-day Lake Walker, rather than a description of every house. The community association itself dates to 1976.

Follow what residents are doing

The Lake Walker Community Association maintains neighborhood news, newsletter material, greening information and a calendar. Those are useful places to find a cleanup, learn about a community gathering or connect with neighbors working on planting and upkeep. Use the current announcement for an activity’s date; older newsletter entries remain valuable as a record of neighborhood life.
