Neighborhood

Hopkins Bayview

Hopkins Bayview is centered on a medical campus whose history includes the City’s former almshouse site and a later transition to Johns Hopkins.

Hopkins Bayview has an institutional identity distinct from neighboring residential Bayview. The City map places Hopkins Bayview beside Bayview, Greektown and Pulaski Industrial Area. The medical center uses 4940 Eastern Avenue as its main location and provides a campus map with directions to individual buildings.

A long history on the hill

Johns Hopkins Medicine’s anniversary history traces the institution’s move to this site to 1866, when Baltimore’s almshouse occupied the grounds. The City’s health-care complex later became Baltimore City Hospitals. Johns Hopkins acquired the institution in 1984, initially naming it Francis Scott Key Medical Center and beginning another chapter in a site long associated with public care.

A campus visit needs the building name

The hospital’s location page distinguishes parking areas and clinical destinations across the campus. Use the department’s instructions when arranging an appointment or visiting a patient; medical services operating around the clock do not establish unrestricted visitor access. Joseph E. Lee parkland also overlaps the City neighborhood, adding a separate public-space reference alongside the much larger medical institution.
