Neighborhood
Highlandtown
Highlandtown brings rowhouse streets, Creative Alliance’s two arts buildings, and the Southeast Anchor Library together along Eastern Avenue.
Highlandtown’s mix of rowhomes, apartments and newer townhomes is described by Live Baltimore. The City map places the neighborhood beside Patterson Park, Canton, Brewers Hill and Baltimore Highlands. Eastern Avenue is a useful starting point for its arts and community destinations.
Two buildings for the arts
Creative Alliance uses the Patterson at 3134 Eastern Avenue for galleries, performances and artist residences. Across the street, its Creativity Center at 3137 Eastern Avenue adds a dance studio and teaching kitchen. Gallery exhibitions and opening receptions are free; performances and classes have their own ticket or registration arrangements. The two addresses serve different kinds of visits.
A library with a neighborhood role
The Southeast Anchor Library at 3601 Eastern Avenue opened in 2007 and includes a reading garden. Spanish-language materials, public computers, printing and job assistance extend its role beyond borrowing books. Together, these institutions offer several ways to use the neighborhood, from an exhibition or evening performance to language learning and everyday library tasks.
