Hawkins Point

Hawkins Point links historic harbor navigation with Fort Armistead Park; current Key Bridge construction notices govern nearby water access.

Hawkins Point occupies a southern edge of Baltimore’s harbor landscape. The City neighborhood map includes Fort Armistead Park, giving this waterfront area a named public-recreation destination alongside its maritime history.

A light that guided the channel

The US Coast Guard’s lighthouse history records Hawkins Point’s 1868 screwpile light as the front light of the Brewerton Range. Paired navigation lights helped vessels line up with a channel. This is a historical structure, not a standing lighthouse to visit today, but its role helps explain the point’s connection to shipping movements through Baltimore Harbor.

Check construction notices before going afloat

As checked on October 2, 2026, Maryland DNR said Fort Armistead Park access would remain open during construction of the new Key Bridge. Its notice also describes restricted areas and temporary safety zones on the Patapsco near the work. Park access and permission to enter nearby water are separate matters. Boaters should follow the current agency notice and on-water controls when planning a trip.
