Neighborhood
Hanlon-Longwood
Hanlon-Longwood combines older homes, a community garden and the reservoir landscape shaped by Baltimore’s water system.
Hanlon-Longwood is a west Baltimore City neighborhood around Hanlon Park and the Ashburton reservoir landscape. Live Baltimore describes detached homes, rowhouses and apartments, with older houses featuring elements such as sunrooms and balconies. It also identifies the Victorine Q. Adams Community Garden as a local gathering place.
The park’s history is closely tied to water infrastructure. The City’s landmark report describes the reservoir and pumping facilities, along with a major underground storage project that began in 2018. That engineering history explains why an apparently simple park landscape includes working structures and areas managed for more than recreation.
The project contractor reports completion in April 2025, including two concrete water-storage tanks and associated park work. That construction milestone does not establish that every recreational area or entrance is open. Before planning a garden activity, park gathering or waterside walk, check the relevant organizer and current on-site access information. The neighborhood’s homes, community spaces and infrastructure remain distinct parts of the same setting.
