Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park
Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park combines wooded trails, nature-center programs and several distinct entrances within west Baltimore City.
Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park is both a major park landscape and an official Baltimore City neighborhood name. Its City-mapped footprint meets numerous residential communities, including Franklintown, Hunting Ridge and Rosemont. The Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park map separates the I-70, Eagle Drive/Crimea, Winans Meadow and Windsor Mill access areas, making the entrance an essential part of planning an outing.
Carrie Murray Nature Center, at 1901 Ridgetop Road, offers animal exhibits, maps and naturalist advice. Equipment such as binoculars can be borrowed with identification. The center distinguishes its natural-surface paths from multiuse routes and asks visitors not to bicycle on those natural paths.
The Friends group’s recreation guide describes the Gwynns Falls Trail as a combination of paved trail and street sections, with other hiking routes through the woods. Choose between a short nature-center visit, a woodland walk and a longer bicycle route before setting off. They use the same larger landscape but have different surfaces, entry points and planning needs; this guide does not represent an inspection of every trail.
