Neighborhood

Curtis Bay

Curtis Bay combines rowhouse and detached-home streets with local parkland and Filbert Street Garden’s food-growing, education and community programs.

Curtis Bay’s residential housing includes rowhomes and detached houses, according to Live Baltimore. The City map distinguishes the neighborhood from the adjoining Curtis Bay Industrial Area. Both share a waterfront setting, but this profile focuses on the residential community and its local resources.

A garden with several community roles

Filbert Street Garden offers community garden plots, growing and environmental education, and a curbside pantry supported by donations and garden produce. Its youth program includes planting, composting and animal care. The garden publishes seasonal public visiting hours; classes, plots and volunteer opportunities have separate arrangements. These different uses make it a place for both practical food-growing work and neighborhood learning.

Public green spaces nearby

City park geometry places Curtis Bay Park and part of Farring-Baybrook parkland within the neighborhood. They add public landscape to an area often described mainly through nearby industry. The garden’s programs and the parks provide more specific starting points for community participation than a general description of the southern waterfront.
