Phoenix

Phoenix connects the northern county’s outdoor landscape with a specialist wildlife rehabilitation organization and access to the former railway corridor.

A local resource for native wildlife

The Phoenix Wildlife Center has worked with injured and orphaned native wildlife since 1992. Its purpose is rehabilitation and return to the wild, supported by a largely volunteer organization. This gives Phoenix a distinctive environmental resource beyond its trails and open land: a place to seek specialist advice when an animal may need help.

The center asks people to call before bringing an animal. A rehabilitation facility has different responsibilities from a visitor-oriented nature center, and an animal that appears alone does not automatically need removal. Using the organization’s guidance first allows its staff to determine the appropriate next step and arrange any needed intake.

Join the rail corridor

DNR’s Gunpowder Falls access information identifies Phoenix access to the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail near Phoenix Road and Carroll Road. It describes the parking as limited and streetside. This is a specific access point within a larger rural road network. For a recreational outing, choose the trail entrance independently of any wildlife-center appointment, and keep the two destinations distinct.
