Owings Mills
Owings Mills brings a public library, college classrooms and Negro Leagues baseball history together at Metro Centre near the subway station.
One of Owings Mills’ most useful public destinations is the County Campus at Metro Centre. A library, college extension center and baseball museum share this setting near the subway, bringing everyday services and cultural history into the same part of the community. The campus places these resources together in a community that also has extensive shopping and office development.
A library with room to work
The Owings Mills library is at 10302 Grand Central Avenue. Its facilities include three study rooms, three meeting rooms, a quiet area and public computers. Russian and Spanish collections broaden the branch’s lending resources, while a caregiver workstation supports adults working alongside a child. The library lists free garage parking, useful information for a destination within a larger mixed-use development.
College study close to transit
CCBC Owings Mills shares the County Campus setting at 10300 Grand Central Avenue. It offers degree courses and career certification classes, with morning, afternoon and evening options. The college describes the Metro SubwayLink station as less than half a mile away. Exact courses vary by term, so the location’s class search is more useful than assuming every CCBC program is taught here.
A museum preserving players’ stories
The Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball gives the campus another purpose. Former player Hubert “Bert” Simmons, Audrey Simmons and Rayner Banks began organizing the museum in 2008 to preserve a history at risk of being lost as players died. Its permanent Metro Centre home opened in spring 2014.
The collection brings together photographs, artifacts, books, interviews and other records of African American baseball. That work places the achievements of players alongside the social barriers they faced. Library services, formal study and this focused historical collection give residents several distinct reasons to return to the same civic destination.
