Milford Mill
Milford Mill’s name leads back to the Gwynns Falls milling landscape; today the corridor also connects residents with county recreation and transit.
The mill behind the name
Milford Mill carries a piece of the Gwynns Falls industrial past in its name. The county mills history preserved by the Maryland State Archives locates the former mill on the stream’s east bank, just south of Milford Mill Road as it ran during the historian’s 1974 research. The account places the mill site within the county-owned stream-valley property known as Villa Nova Park. This is a documented historical site, rather than a surviving mill open for tours.
Follow the particular destination
The county parks directory lists Milford Mill or Villa Nova Park at 970 Milford Mill Road, using a Pikesville postal address. It also lists Milford Mill Academy at 3800 Washington Avenue. Those different addresses are a reminder that the road, school, park and larger community are related names, not interchangeable destinations.
For travel along the surrounding corridors, MTA LocalLink 37 connects the Old Court and UMBC/Catonsville ends of its route and includes Milford Mill Road and Liberty Road stops. Its route map is useful for identifying the appropriate stop and transfer before a trip. The historic stream valley and the present-day transit corridor offer two distinct ways to understand Milford Mill.
