Long Green
Long Green’s farm landscape remains visible in its historic district and in a family dairy that processes and sells products on Long Green Road.
A valley recorded through its farms
The Long Green Valley Historic District recognizes a broad rural agricultural landscape containing farmhouses, barns and crossroads buildings. Its significance rests on the relationship between those buildings and the land around them. The district provides historical context for Long Green, while individual farms remain separate properties with different uses and visitor arrangements.
A working dairy with a farm store
The Prigel family’s account follows dairy farming at Bellevale Farm from the family’s arrival in 1895. The creamery developed as a way to process milk locally and support the farm’s continuing operation. The operator explicitly says it no longer renews its former organic certification, so the farm should not be described as currently certified organic.
The farm store is at 4852 Long Green Road, with a Glen Arm mailing address. It sells ice cream and groceries, while farm-based learning and field trips have a separate contact route. A store visit offers one direct connection with the valley’s agricultural economy; an educational group visit requires its own arrangement. The familiar road and farm names tie those current activities to a longer local history.
